B.Sc. Botany Semester 6 CORE Course; Course Name- Plant tissue culture and its biotechnological applications – BOT6; Course Duration- Theory – 60 Hrs., Practical – 30 Hrs.; Instructor: KVM
RECOMBINANT DNA TECHNOLOGY
This module teaches students the principle theories of recombinant DNA, advanced techniques for working with recombinant DNA, and the applications of the science being taught. This course is generally broken up in genetic engineering programs, with one course teaching technique and theory while the other devotes the entirety of its time to lab work. Students in the lab gain hands-on experience working with DNA by practicing molecular cloning and directed mutagenesis, measuring gene expression, and detecting mutations.
· Quadrant 1 one covers the History of Genetic Engineering
· Quadrant 2 two deals with Enzymes of Genetic engineering.
· Quadrant 3 deals the Gene cloning Vectore .
· Quadrant 4 covers the Steps involved in Gene cloning
Genetic manipulation of crops is an issue of great current interest and controversy. This free course, Gene manipulation in plants, covers some of the basic science that underpins the debate and examines the hotly contested case study of the development of ‘golden rice’. By looking at the science behind the headlines you will acquire a clearer idea of both what is possible in GM science and what may be considered desirable.
The students will gain overall knowledge of:
· To train manpower suited to the needs of Plant genetic engineering.
· To acquaint with the basic techniques in plant genetic engineering.
The online version of the course will provide you with additional resources such as post lecture assignments (with bonus points), online activities, quizzes and computer based exams (both models and past years exams). Finally, the most important advantage of this online version is having the chance to directly interact with the course material (posting comments and suggesting ideas) and with the course coordinator (posting questions and debating answers).
As always, we are looking forward to hearing your comments and ideas about the course. Please feel free to contact the course author, Dr. Madhusudhan kalaiahgari V, through email at [email protected]
We had enough talk, it is time to go to the real world and start your journey inside the cell. I hope you enjoy it!
