PLANT BREEDING

The Plant Breeding focuses on the genetic improvement of crop plants through the study and application of genetics, statistics, agronomy, plant pathology, entomology, and related sciences. The program offers fundamental skills in plant breeding, the study of advanced concepts such as genomic selection, and analysis of problems in plant breeding as they arise by global society.

The course will start by presenting an overview of the plant breeding, followed by methods of crop improvement.To be more particular, this course is divided into four quadrants that are consequently divided into lessons each lesson covering a topic in substantial details.

Quadrants

· Quadrant 1 one covers the overview of plant Breeding .

· Quadrant 2 two deals with plant breeding in India

· Quadrant 3 covers the methods of plant breeding

· Quadrant 4 covers heterosis and inbreeding depression.

Objectives

Explain the results of mono hybrid and dihybrid inheritance in plants.Describe gamete production in plants.Investigate the role of systematic botany in horticulture.Explain a variety of different plant breeding techniques.Describe the commercial and scientific nature of the modern plant breeding industry, on a global basisDescribe the structure and function of genetic materialReview current developments in plant breeding.
